Chelsea - The Greatest Flower Show On Earth.
A history with images of this great flower show, from 1913 to the present day. Fortunately the book avoids being a dry and dusty chronological tome by being arranged in eclectic chapters. The Royals (family) get their own chapter and there is no doubt that their enthusiastic presence has added its own stamp to the show’s identity. So too do those other royals (the media stars). And the author, Leslie Geddes-Brown, has encouraged a light touch with the style of her text. It’s informative without being pedantic and there are more anecdotes than Latin names. The book’s main success is that in both words and pictures it puts its finger on the secret of Chelsea’s unassailable success and reputation – quality. The standard of exhibits has always been amazingly high and the real heroes are the nurserymen, the designers and the craftsmen who year on year work themselves to the bone to perpetuate the high standards.
